Edgar Modern were delighted to hear that two of our artists, Jessica Cooper and Toni Cogdell, have had their work selected for this year’s Annual Open Exhibition at Bristol’s Royal West of England Academy.

Now in its 163rd year, this prestigious exhibition is a highlight of the South West’s art calendar, attracting submissions from both well-known and upcoming artists. A selection panel assess every entry and this year 593 works by 386 artists have made it into the final exhibition.

With a dynamic salon hang, the five galleries are bursting with colour and life and it would be easy to spend hours exploring the eclectic mix of styles and mediums that are showcased.

The smaller Milner Gallery has been repainted a vibrant peacock blue especially for the show and its walls are decorated with a sea of works in miniature, including Toni’s romantic and dream-like piece “Stoic”.

Over in the Stamcomb-Wills Gallery, Jessica Cooper’s “Not Just Three Lemons” hangs in prime position and draws in visitors with its simple linear elegance and quiet beauty.

The RWA’s Open Exhibition runs from 4 October – 29 November and is one not to be missed!
